During this four-part online course, you will be trained to become a competent ICAM Lead Investigator capable of independently leading complex incident investigations from start to finish.
Designed for safety professionals, investigators, and managers who will be appointed as ICAM Lead Investigators within their organisations, the course takes you step-by-step through the complete ICAM process while equipping you with the practical skills needed to deliver high-quality, defensible investigation outcomes.
Delivered across four intensive sessions, the program combines in-depth methodology training with extensive use of real-life case studies drawn from aviation, mining, oil & gas, rail, healthcare, and manufacturing incidents. You will work through actual major accidents and high-potential events, building timelines, applying the ICAM model, identifying contributing factors and failed defenses, and formulating effective, evidence-based recommendations.
A dedicated module explores the responsible application of AI in ICAM investigations, demonstrating how artificial intelligence tools can rapidly process large data sets, highlight hidden patterns, and support – not replace – human judgement in determining root causes.
All trainers are active ICAM Lead Investigators with a minimum of ten years’ experience leading investigations into fatal accidents, serious injuries, and major process-safety events across multiple continents. Their real-world insights, lessons learned from actual investigations, and direct feedback on your casework will ensure you complete the course ready to lead investigations with confidence and credibility.
